Headlights

What's up peoples? Quick questions-->

1. How easy is it to replace the headlights (not the lights)? I heard you have to take off the bumpers to change them. If so, how hard would it be to take off?

2. I have the clear lenses on my car now and I noticed they're turning yellow.. I'm wonder whether this happened to anyone and if it's b/c of the chrome in the lenses, lights or brand?? As far as I know they're OEM...

Thanks!!

headlights are easy to remove. im not sure if the bumper has to come out or not. im leaning twords not. but if so they are easy to take off... a couple of screws in the fender wells and a couple under the grill, plus a push in or two under the front bumper. older styles can get a little tricky but its pretty easy if you ask me.

For a 1999 Accord Sedan?? I heard the other models are simple but they changed that for these models..

well for my 4th gena nd my friends 6th gen, we both had to take off the bumper. on the 6th gen, it is really easy.

im not exactly sure of the clips, but they require a screwdriver to take em out. becareful not to strip them, very easy to strip...

if you've installed a one piece CAi on your 6Gen before, then you should have no problems taking out your headlight assembly.

2kAccord 12-15-2004 05:45 PM

On a 6th gen you have to remove the front bumper, theres 2 or 3 bolts behind it that hold the headlight assembly in. As far as removing the bumper, theres 2 bolts in the upper fender well, and the rest is held on with 13 plastic clips, 5 on the top and 8 underneath.

if your going to take off the bumper to change the headlights, you should get a CAI instead of a short RAM. you'll be able to easily take out the air box. what are you going to replace the headlights with? blackhousings, or another set of clear headlights?

I'm not 100% sure I'm going to go thru all that taking off the bumper.. It sounds like you have to be really careful with the clips and Im not tryin to have my bumper fall off while Im driving... Yea, I'm tryin to get the black housing... I have an emerald green accord.. What ya think?

the bumper clips are not that fragile so I wouldn't worry about it falling off on you. check out this site http://www.filtsai.com/cars/ there is a ton of info on DIY, how to remove the bumper, how to do all sorts of stuff.

I like the blackhousings your thinking about, I have the same set. if you do get them go out to a hardware store and pickup a tube of silicone. you're going to want to seal up the headlights. aftermarket headlights are not always sealed properly so apply a couple coats of silicone to the headlight. its real easy to do, you don't have to be exact since your not going to see where the silicone is once the headlight is installed.

instead of wasting your money on those aftermarket headlights why not do your own black housing headlights its fairly easy and will cost you 10-15 dollars to get all the supplies you need.

Esco5710 12-16-2004 10:02 AM

That would be an option if I knew how and what supplies I would need?

The only supplies you will need are a can of black heat treated paint, some painters tape, an oven or heat gun and some plastic primer. Where are you located if your in MD VA or DC area maybe I can help you.

BONE 12-16-2004 10:25 AM

oh and some clear silicone to seal everything back up.

Esco5710 12-16-2004 10:44 AM

Im in NJ... How easy is to take the thing about? Like I said the lenses are currently yellowish. I should be able to buy something to clear them up right?

It sounds pretty easy to do.. Just need to get the time and place to take the bummer off...

BONE 12-16-2004 10:48 AM

do you have a pic of your lights so I can see what your talking about if they are really messed up try to find someone who is selling there stock headlights and purchase those either try ebay or the for sale forum here search around you should be able to find some for a good deal.

Esco5710 12-16-2004 10:56 AM

Nah, I don't have a pic and you can't really tell unless you look closely or you lift the hood and you see the top panel and compare it to the front.... I would prefer not to have the stock ones again if possible tho...

Illicit Accord 12-19-2004 12:29 AM

i just installed some foggies on my 5th gen, and i noticed that to access the headlights on that, you need to take the bumper off

The stock headlights are a quality piece compared to those aftermarket ones thats why most people do their own black housing because its cheaper than buying crappy aftermarket and the light output will be better. You should look into a retrofit headlight conversion check out www.bwimports.org and follow to lighting and check this guys work out its awesome.

Esco5710 12-19-2004 10:12 AM

I got into an accident a couple of years back and I only have the left stock light so unless I buy only the left one somewhere, I will be using the ones I have I just need to make time and find somewhere warm to pull the bumper, etc. Thanks!!

James281 12-19-2004 05:06 PM

if you have enough tools then its gonna be pretty easy, i replaced my broken headlight with oem part within 30-40 minutes consider that is slow!

Esco5710 12-20-2004 04:44 AM

I got some step by step instruction but they dont say what tools I would need.. I'm assumming a socket wrench, possilbly an extension and probably a screwdriver is all I'll need... Of course besides the materials to paint the lights...
