Shak'n Accord

I have a 95 Accord EX w/92k miles in it. When I drive with the AC on and I'm waiting on a red light/stop my car begins to shake a lil, mostly coming from the front of the car. When I turn off the AC the shaking stops. Is this normal or is there something wron with my car?

DarkSideAccord Jul 21, 2004 02:57 PM

AC belt needs to be replaced or adjusted

By the way the shaking happens sometimes.....

Nightshade Jul 21, 2004 03:36 PM

Its normal.

Usually waht happens is when the compressor kicks in it causes the engine to dip in RPM causing that stutter effect. They say it is supposed to compensate for the extra draw on the engine but I have yet to see Honda build an AC car that does.

Maybe the idle is set too low?

perhaps part of it is weakening engine mounts? The AC will make the RPM's dip, however the effect is only worsened by bad mounts. So is the case with my vehicle. how bad is the shaking?

GoldHonda95 is right. If your car is shaking bad, then most likely your engine mounts are all gone. Also, when you turn on your ac your engine needs to go faster to turn the belts that go to the compresor, that is why your engine shakes, but if you had good mounts then it wouldn't! Also, since the engine goes faster more gas is burned, so for me I leave the AC off unless it is extremly hot! Also the engine powers the belts that turn the alternator that the ac runs off of, so there is more RPMs from your engine.

Does it happen when you put the car in reverse too??

A slight shake is normal when the compressor kicks in, but anything more than that, and you should have the motor mounts checked.

lol, my motor mounts are totally shot, becuz even without my a/c on, my car shakes when coming to a stop.

how expensive is it to replace motor mounts?? i think my gf's teg has bad motor mounts... it shakes like a mofo, esp when i put the car into reverse
