quiet headers
I have a 99 EX coupe with a SOHC VTEC 4 cyl. I would like to put a header on, but do not want the car to sound like a bumble bee. I am spoiled by having American V8's, and find loud 4 and 6 cylinder engines annoying. Is it possible to use an aftermarket header with the OEM exhaust system? I am looking for a bolt-on swap, not a lot of cutting and welding.

If you get a header it will not sound ricey. Whats going to sound ricey is no resonator or cheap exhaust. This will make it sound mean and deep and to answer your question there really is no header system that will sound like OEM. But then again you wont find a header that makes a buzzing noise.

Does anyone have any soundclips of a V6 accord with headers? I know what a V8 sounds like with headers, and was curious what 2 less cylinders would sound like.

about the question of whether or not it will hook up to a stock exhaust system... you will have no problems. it will bolt up to the catalytic convertor which, unless you have some aftermarket hi flow cat. but anyways, you will have no problems linking it up to a stock exhaust, however, you may not notice the full potential of an aftermarket header, but then again, it's an accord, not a racecar.

Header shouldn't make much of a difference in tone through a stock exhaust.
Who said its not a race car again? |
hahaha. it can be a race car if you want to put the time and money into it... but in a generally stock form with minor modifications (i/h/e) the accord is nowhere near a race car. but Nightshade, haven't you done some serious engine work to your 5th gen?

I believe the V6's have 2 manifolds(headers)... But if you live in california and have an 1999+ ULEV f23 engine you can get a 98 LEV headers and regain your 2hp that was lost  http://www.tuningdepot.com/ebay/images/V6HEADER.jpg |
