Poly bushing kit
 

Has anyone ever heard of Prothane? I wanted to get a complete set of bushings for my 96 and was wondering if anyone had problems with them or opinions.

My father-in-law has full poly bushings in his 86 Shelby GLHS.
They will squeek a bit if not oiled, they will make the ride a bit harsher, but road feel will be superb. They are also time consuming to install.

And expensive to install. One guy asked for five bills. Is that the going rate for the complete kit? Thanks for the info.

I don't know he installed his himself.

I'd likely install the the bushings I could myself as well, I'd only have certian ones press fit that needed it like the rear lower control arms. Else the rest of the kit should be garage floor doable.

Plus a good few days of down time, but it should be garage floor doable.

its garage floor doable with a shop press. you wont get very many of the bushings out without one. i have a 20 ton shop press and it still didnt have enough balls to take some of the bushings out of my 90 Civic rear lower control arms. i had to take them to my girlfriends dads shop where he works on tractor trailer rigs and use that press. you should use a press for all the bushings. and make sure to lube them a lot. just for the record, its not easy. you will yell a lot. swear a lot. beat a lot of things. get very mad a lot. but good luck

You can use a torch to get the old bushings out.
But you will need to take the new ones to a shop to have them pressed in. But the re-assembly can be done your self.

i dont know how you are gonna burn them out. i tried to burn one out and after having a torch on it for 10 minutes it wasnt even a quarter of the way through. maybe i needed something hotter but a torch should do it. pressing them back in was the easy part. i dont know if you got the metal part around the rubber out or not. to do it properly it should be removed and then the urethane bushing will slide right in. you can also do it with an air chisel or just with a hammer and cold chisel. but to do it the right way you should use a press
