Default Best turbo for custom kit?

I came across a site on making a custom kit and its seems pretty good and i learned alot about turbo's in the process. Im considering doing this custom kit and was wondering what the best turbo would be for a d16y8. I would like one that spools pretty quick and makes good power , i will be running on stock internals for now but i may build it up later and want something that i could upgrade down the road.

yea i like theres only thing is that if im going to buy that turbo i will probably end up buying there kit because i wont have to worry about finding parts as much. Would you think a t3 is too much for a d16y8?

apex'i doesn't make the kit anymore.

the problem with big turbo's is the spool time. A t3 might take a bit to spool, thus creating a bit of turbo lag.

apex'i uses a ball bearing kit. I think its comperable to a t3/t4 kit, but I dunno.

I'll just leave this alone....

im pretty sure a t3 is the least powerful out of a t3, t3/t4, t4 turbo's. Only makes sense ya know but i think it may be better that the IHI(apex) turbo you guys are talking about.

If you wanna do it cheaper go to a junkyard and pick one up off a car that came with one stock I.e. DSM thats what most SOHC guys who have custom kits run. I dont know if this was the site you looked at but check out www.homemadeturbo.com

THEY DON'T SELL THEM ANYMORE!

The Apex'i kit is officially discontinued due to poor sales. A T3 is too big for a stock D16 and has massive lag. I run the same amount of boost as my friend with a DRAG kit with an otherwise exact setup. Guess who gets dusted all the time?

A T25 would be great for a street car because it spools fast, but it has limited efficiency range. I'll give it 13 or 14 psi. The Greddy 15G is good for up to 15psi and the new 96-00 EX kit has a 19T which is probably good for just over the 15G with more cfm flow.

It depends on the A/R ratings for the spool time. I have a pretty small T3/T04B turbo, my A/R ratings are .48 on both turbo housing and compressor housing. Most T3/T4's are .64 A/R ratings There so many T3's and T3/T4's its amazing. if you want a faster spooling turbo then get a A/R rating thats at about .48. My turbo spools at about 3800-4100rpms. My redline is at 6000rpm, my cars very driveable yet makes great power.
