crank pulley defeat :(
Tried to put the CTR N1 crank pulley on today.
got the alternator belt off real quick. tried to bust the crank pulley bolt using a foot long breaker bar and half of my floor jack stick. no luck broke my 3" 1/2" extention in the process. bought some dewalt impact wrench from home depot had 250 lbs of torque. didn't do jack shit... so pissed. just takin' it to my friend and having him do that, and my alternator pulley for a couple of beers. sucks i hate not getting it done on my own! |
Damn, that's a tough bolt.

IS that the pulley that just runs the Alternator.

I was defeated by an oxygen sensor on an old Isuzu today... why can't people use freakin' anti-sieze...

Wuss. Electric impact guns are pretty much worthless, maybe get lugs loose, but that's about it. I have an IR 1/2" air gun that does 600 ft/lbs but it won't break axle nuts or crank pulley's. Just get in there with some better tools and break that sucker loose.

I use a 1/2" Craftsman socket wrench and I bang it with a sledge hammer. Works for me.

i used a 24" lug wrench and my huge buff arms (which i got from parallel parking alot w/o power steering). it didnt really put up a fight. try putting the car in 1st, and having someone hold the brakes.

I have a Huskey 500ft/lb impact and it has done the job many times. Just don't use an extension. The extension reduces the power. I also use a Moroso crank pulley wrench to hold the pulley from turning while you do it. The extension makes the difference but you will probably need to lower the engine a bit to get it in there without an extension. I just did my sisters timing belt and water pump on her 97' Accord EX and I could'nt get the bolt loose (never been off before) with the extension and as soon as I did it without the extension it got it no problem. You will need at least a 500ft/lb gun though. You can also use a chain wrench to hold the pulley but I highly reccomend the moroso wrench if you plan on owning your car a while. It fits the accords/civics/integra's that I know of.
