Completely New to all this shiat
Im a 16 year old kid, turning 17 in feb, pretty close to buying a used '96-'99 civic (manual). Reading in the forums i now know that some of you "experts" dont like the new people. Im not a dumb shit but im not a know-it-all. I was just wondering if some people could give me pointers on what to modify were it wouldnt be outrageuosly expensive. I pretty much know what i want modify looks-wise, but i could use some help on performance so i can rack up a good bit of horses. If anyone can help me youd be a big help towards steps into creating the car i've always wanted.:thumbup:

work your way up.
1.) Force yourself to do everything yourself.
2.) There is no cheap way to get a Civic to go fast.
3.) Start with suspension. It gives you the biggest gains from the least amount of money invested.
4.) Go on www.howstuffworks.com Learn how a 4 stroke engine works, and other parts of a car also.
5.) Go buy Honda builders handbook. Cheap $20, and gives you an idea of what it takes to get a Honda to go fast. It's kinda old so you see how hard they worked back then to get anything out of a damned 4 banger.
6.) Stay away from gay lights and other non sense.
7.) Get a good floor jack and 4 jack stands. Invest in some sort of tool set if you dont' already have some.
8.) Go to www.helmsinc.com. They sell service manuals for Honda's. Those manuals give you detailed information on how to take apart something and put it back together. IN FULL DETAIL!
9.) First performance mod for a 92-00 Civic should be to swap into a B series motor (Integra motor). That's a personal opinion, but it's a damn good starting point.
10.) This is in no particular order, but I wasted tons of money and time buying crap parts that are now all gone. Do what you want, but I say invest in an awesome suspension and you'll be very happy you did. It'll make your boring Civic fun to drive. My suspension is the only thing that keeps me from selling my Honda.
11.) Going forced induction on a car you aren't familiar with is a recipe for disaster and an immediate money pit.

If you get a civic ex, turbo or nitrous would probably be the best bang/buck in terms of performance, but a swap would be a little more thorough. If you get a DX, CX, or HX, I would recomend an engine swap over F/I. If you have a lot of money to throw around, a swap and F/I is the best way to go. How much money are you thinking of spending, and what are your goals for the car?
