Engine won't start
Hey all,
I have a 93 civic dx and the thing won't start. Replaced the starter, I have fuel running to it so I thing it might be the ignition coil or the whole distributor how can I tell if it has gone bad? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dave |
does it turn over at all? we need more information.

Usually all the lights in your dash will light up if it's the distributer. Sounds like it could be the coil. Take off the dist crap and see if the plastic around the coil looks white.. or like it could have been burned

It will almost turn over. It sounds like it is about to turn over but it does not start. I pulled off the distributor cap and it all looks good no burn marks or anything. All the lights work and everything else electrical works, but the thing won't start.
Thanks Dave |
LOL.. just noticed I said crap instead of cap. My dist went in my 90 DX back in '97.. all the lights in the gauge bessel went off and the car died.
A little over a month ago.. I was cruising down a highway in my 00 EX .. and my car lost all engine power and costed to a stop. I still had all electric and everything else. The car sounded like it would turn over.. but never did. No CELs... nothing. Turns out it was the Ignition coil.. there was a very subtle line of white coming off of it. :dunno: tho.. just telling you what I've been through. Kinda sounds identical. Good luck. :happysad: |
You replaced the starter without further investigation? It's a text book case of ignition coil failure. Could be the ICM as well but I highly doubt it. All civics have this problem sooner or later.
|
maybe you're just low on battery?
|
What does ICM Stand for and thanks for all the help I will pick up a new coil and give that a try. What are the steps for replacing the ignition coil, does it involve retiming the car.
Thanks Dave |

Ipulled the distributor cap off but, there is no white burn marks or resadue. Would there have to be burn marks for it to be the ignition coil or could it have just gone bad.
Thanks Dave |
