Changing to SOHC VTEC

I plan on changing my car over to a SOHC VTEC in the next month and would like some input from those who know. I want things to go as smooth as possible, so the less fabrication the better. I also need the car to be smog legal. I was thinking of a y8 head, but was told to go z6 with some y8 components. Either way though, I was told to use zc pistons and after looking into it, I've decided to go that route. I would also like to know a good cam for over all power, not just high end, not just low end. Something in between would be good, but if I have to choose, I would rather have low end to save gas. Thanks y'all!

if its going to be smog legal, you'll have to go with a 97+ ex engine, which means a y8 engine. Z6's are the previous gen, and cali's carb laws are strict as fuck. If you use an older engine, you WILL NOT PASS inspection or whatever the hell they do.

You could just swap the head and do the "mini-me" swap, but if I was going to do anything with it, I'd just swap the whole y8 engine. $.02

If you have a car that new, stick with a Y8 head. There is no point in putting and older, lower compression, probably higher milage Z6 head on a '97.

Cool. Thanks. I'll go with the y8. btw, anybody know about how much jdm zc pistons go for? i just don't wanna pay too much.

I thought the ZC was dohc engine? will those work in a Sohc D series? What would thier effect be?

If you need an info on the D16 swaps, there are PLENTY of D16 forums out dedicated to those little monsters!!

They are DOHC but they fit in the other D16's I'm told. It increases compression alot (almost 2 points!)

USDM 'ZC' is from 88-89 Integra; same 75mm bore
