vtec + turbo

i recently installed a 15g turbo on my ex coupe, and im not sure if vtec is kicking in. is there some kind of distinct sound i should be listening for??? before it always seemed to scream when vtec kicked in. now it just kinda sounds like the turbo spools, but no distinct sound.

Do you really need vtec with boost?

VTEC isn't really felt on the SOHC engines anyways.

yellowcivicex, Have you tuned your setup?

I can definitely feel VTEC kick in on my D16Z6... after that little "whirry metallic spinning-type noise" engages, the throttle response is much quicker, and the car definitely sounds and acts distinctly different. But I must admit, it's a minor change compared to the DOHC cars, like the B17 in my 92 GSR... that THAT was a change.

haha...haven't had it on a dyno yet. i guess that's my next thing to do. b4 i could feel vtec kick in. the car wouldn't go anywhere without it. i guess it's not that important when boosting anyways.

VTEC is hardly noticeable to most on SOHC vehicles, also VTEC is oil pressure sensitive. Your new blow dryer, it is lubricated by oil, the same oil that is used in your crankcase, which engages (or as you like to call it "kick in") VTEC. My suggestion to you, check your oil
