genI b16 vs. genII b16 (or, obdI vs. obdII)

other than the obvious difference of a whole whopping 10 hp, which is better? I've heard people saying obdI is more superior to obdII due to less cels it can throw and sensors that can fail.

therefor, given that genI b16s cost less than genII b16s, other than moving back a generation (and illegalities in some states, not including mine), would it be wiser to get the genI even in an ej/ek?

gen 1 i believe has the cable tranny and gen 2 has the hydro, i've driven both and i'd stick with my gen2. had my gen 2 b16a in my dx for 2 years now and have not had any problems, not even a cel. i also did a hondata stage 2 w/ backdate harness, runs a bit much but no problems. 9000 redline too!

obd1 supposedly responds better to mods than obd2--easier to tune.

But the gen 1 is obd0, isnt it? Thats the one with cable tranny and different mounts. so 2nd gen would be obd1 and 3rd would be obd2.... I think :dunno: Somebody, help please?

Time to open my notebooks from my swap research days...

But from a less technical standpoint...

"Better" would be for you to simply go with the snd Gen due to the transmission (given your car is already manual?) The cable tranny on the first gen would create a problem... sure you can get the cable to hyrdo conversion, but why all that if the price in the end is about the same as the 2nd gen.

96+ EKs have an added issue to be concerned with: OBDII which exists only in the USA - not Japan. As such a '96+ Civic wishing to install the JDM '92+ or newer B16A will have to use an OBDI ECU (JDM or USA pre-'96).

SIR-I's were OBD-0
SIR-II's were OBD-I <~ what I had

swapping in a first gen into your car would be a headache. not sure about the 2nd gens and the OBD-I -> OBD-II wiring though. I think some places sell the wiring harness.

I think skunk2 has an obd1-obd2 wiring conversion kit for like $200.
