Default urgent timing help

hey i finally got around to checking the timing on my 5th gen civic sedan. and well theres four marks to line up to

theres white, red, white. space space space and then white again

I = Red, | = white
it looks like this   | I |        & nbsp;|

where does the timing line up to? the red or the far white?
I jumped the thing beside the glove box and set the timing gun right. The sight was closest to the far right white line. so i just lined that one better to the sight. i thought i was supposed to line it up to the red line but the distributer didn't turn far enough to line that one up?, is this normal? and if so, whats the red line for? thanks.

the far right mark is TDC, you want to line it up with the "timing mark" which is the red one.

There is a 2 pin connector where your ecu is located (passenger's side right kick pannel). The connector is blue/green and looks like it would plug into a 2 wire male end connector.

You take a paper clip, make a U shape with it and stick each end into each connector pin so that you jump it.

This makes it so your ECU won't try to compensate for the timing adjustment. Then set your timing. When you're done, remove the paper clip.

Oh, duh. I didnt' see that you had already jumped the ECU.. :doh:

As drantastic said, you need to make sure that you're lining up the RED mark with the rifle style marker on the timing belt cover.

ok. thanks for the quick replies. i love that,

i did jump it, i've got a haynes manual. we did the green/ blue plug jump. and i think i've rotated it the right way, or my friend rotated it actaully, and he tried both ways and i could see the mark go left and right.,

if i'm standing on the driver side fender looking at it. the red mark is on the left, and the white mark is on the right. as he rotates the distributer towards the bumper, the lines shift to the left, and visa versa.

any ideas?
