Default 2000 Civic DX Cat Help

Hey guys,

Long time no see I have a favor and my Civic knowledge is a little limited nowadays. I have a GF that has a 2000 Honda Civic DX (I believe because no power windows, etc) and the dealer is telling her that her primary cat is bad and wanna charge her like $700.00 to replace it.

From what I can, from looking its part of the header right? or can you buy just the cat?

Can you guy point me to a place where I can get a good deal on this part?

Call some local wreckers, you should be able to find one for cheap, and then...you can sell the old one back as the used up cat contains heavy metals that hold value!

No the cat is not I had the same problem on my 97 it was the primary cat and it is one unit. Mine cost almost 700 dollars to replace so they are not pulling your leg here.

The cat is glowing red (clogged). She work for the city in environmental services so she is not willing to have it cut out or anything.

Replace with a cheap header and add a cat downstream like the D16Y8 setup? You'd need to extend the O2 sensor wiring, but you'd stand to gain power and economy while keeping the pricetag much lower than an OEM replacement.
