What's your opinion?

The 00 Si has DC header, Apex WS full catback exhaust, AEM cold air intake..

Same mods... EX runs faster.

How is this not a correct statement?

So, very similar mods on both cars and the ex still runs faster huh? I have to beg to differ assuming both drivers are equally competent, stick, and the run is from 0-80 mph.
Please note that my judgement is based on logical facts and not because I have 2 SI's.

The Si ran a 10.29@70.

This is their BEST E/t's. Both of them are good drivers. But I think traction is their main problems.

Each time they switched cars to get better times it resulted in a worse time.

On the street, with the SI dropping into 2nd gear first, the EX stays dead even with the SI, then Pulls away in third gear. SI's are geared very short.

I transfer this interesting discussion from kill stories to civic forum to get everyone's input. Shoot away... :)

well on the street it could be a toss-up, many factors apply. But on the track something has to be up for the ex to beat out the Si with generally the same mods and supposedely equal drivers. 0-40 it might be even cause the SI doesnt have much more torque, but after that the vtec should do the rest of the work and the SI should be faster, is the SI getting a bad launch or what?

airon Feb 26, 2003 12:34 PM

could happen as it looks like its a 1/8th track
the si, also known to many as the torqueless wonder, does not make its horsepower to well into the rpms, it makes 160 hp at 7600 rpm
with a bad launch a b16 takes a while to get up to speed

also at 70 mph the si's gearing means its in 3rd gear
with the ex cant it still be in 70, or is the gearing shorter?

I think that IF it's true, which I'm kind of doubting, the driver of the SI can't drive very well even though he says he can

I'm also curious to find out how much each driver weighs...
If the SI driver weighs 250 lbs vs. EX driver at 150 lbs, I won't doubt the EX will finish slightly ahead...

sokencivic Feb 26, 2003 02:51 PM

its a possibility

same conclusion when you add a turbo to a type R and a GSR. the gsr is faster

wouldn't the eg ex be lighter, therefor easier to keep up with the slightly overwieght si?

Thats all driver, the b16 should have a definite advantage over d16.

makes perfect sense...i used to keep up with i/h/e si's when i was i/h/e in my 00 ex but when they hit middle of 3rd around 70 they'd start walking pretty hard, same with the GSRs. The 1/8 mile tracks are mostly about the launch.

I agree... And I have to add that shift point is equally important.
