98 civic lx lighter doesn't work

My lighter doesn't work on my car. I have taken the dash apart to see if it was disconnected but it's connected. I checked the fuse and it's fine. It isn't the lighter itself but the plug has no current. any ideas?

I mainly need it for my gps and phone charger as I enjoy road trips. Could I possibly tap into another "hot" source?

thanks in advance guys

Do you have a radio installed? In my car I have one fuse for both radio and lighter. Did you check the voltage at the plug with a voltmeter?

You could tap into any wire carrying voltage, but I would just run a wire from the batter with a fuse and through a switch, rather than looking for ignition wires and stuff.

I have a voltmeter but for some reason it doesn't work, or I'm not doing it right. my radio works just fine and I installed that. I'm baffled here with this.

I plug in my cell charger and GPS and neither of them charges. So it isn't getting any juice. I tried to trace the wires to see if they're broken anywhere but they go up into the dashboard.

If you didnt check the plug for current with a voltmeter, you have no way of knowing that there's no juice coming from the plug. Replace the actual socket with a new one. They're very cheap, like $10-$15 at Autozone.

A voltmeter is one of the handiest tools you could have. Replace the batteries on it, use the selector dial to choose the mode that checks continuity and touch the two leads together, the needle should jump or indicator should light up.
