Tony's 09 Thread

Looking back.. i've had so much crap that it's probably a good idea that i didn't try to contain it all with one thread! Those of you who have been around for a while are aware, those that haven't, i'm sure u could understand after doing a quick search!

Anyways, i sold my old turbo setup due to the limitations of it and wanting to use a larger turbo. I've been stock piling parts again.

I had a pretty productive sunday afternoon, I left my cell phone in the house and began working on this around 1pm. I think it was around 5pm when i called it quits. This is what i had.

I still need to pull the runners off individually and weld up all the seams but it's getting there. It's been in and out of the car about 20 times now for test fitting and the turbo literally has about a half inch between the turbo/engine and between the turbo/body. I'll add the the wastegate placement after i get the downpipe constructed so that i don't end up with clearance problems.

I'll post up more for you guys when i get farther.

Are you designing an equal length manifold, or are the pipes like that for clearance issues?

Tonight's progress..

Worked on all the seams on the runners

All tied together

Just to show how tight of a fit this is!

the turbo is basicly garrett's version of the SC61 (.82ar/ 70trim with 61mm wheel)

If it is an equal length manifold how did you go about calculating how long to make each runner?

HatchVX Feb 24, 2009 06:49 AM

is that ball bearing or journal bearing? either David had the sc61 on his s2k and it was nice.

it's not exact, it's close but either way it's been proven that equal lenth manifolds in a turbo setup show no gain over something thats not. I built a top mount for two reasons.

1. Bling Factor (when the hood is poped)
2. Good flow for High HP Application.

Journal bearing man.. i'm not baller enough for BB, and with the rate that i kill turbo's, it's just not worth it for me.

Poop, I was hoping you'd tell me how to calculate proper lengths on runners.

Cool project none the less.

Have you thought about doing it to a non FWD platform?
