well, that's interesting v.axle problem

The good news: my civic ran under it's own power yesterday for the first time in years. Our homemade wiring harness worked, No CEL or anything :oh:

The bad news: after a test drive (which involved a few full-lock turns), we put it up on the lift to see where all the smoke was coming from (turns out there was a spider colony living in the cat heat shield). When it was up on the lift, my buddy put it in gear and spun the wheels a little to hit the brakes and clear some of the rust off the rotors. After maybe 15 seconds of this, the wheels stopped spinning and the passenger side axle popped out of the transmission... not all the way, but enough for a bunch of fluid to come out.

We couldn't get it to re-seat into the transmission, it's almost as if the axle magically shortened itself, as this is the exact same trans and axles I had on the car before. I figured maybe it was because my coilovers were jacked up into full 4x4 mode, and that combined with fully sagging suspension on the lift was just too far of a stretch for the axle. But even back on the ground, we couldn't get it back in. I've just never heard of that happening.

Anyway, I'm just going to pull and re-install the axle when I get a chance. Just wanted to see if any of you regulars have had this problem before or have any suggestions other than just re-installing the axle and maybe lowering the coilovers a bit.

:) TIA

something is not right if the axle just magically pops out

replace the axle. My buddy had this problem on his 93. He has a b20b2 in it. He had his put back in and then broke it. He didn't tell me exactly where he broke it but he had to replace it. Its probably your lock ring going bad. I wouldn't mess with it especially if you have money into the car just spend the money and fix it right.

Check the lock ring for damage.

circlip might be inside the transaxle. scarry.

my guess is you didn't seat it the first time. You gotta feel the snap ring seat. If it goes in and out with ease the c-clip is shot/damaged.

Yeah, I think that must've been it. I did that job a couple months ago :o Put it back in, and the axle seems fine now.

Only issue at this point is it starts rough and runs rough until it warms up. :/

why is this thread pic less?

Imagine an axle sitting about an inch out of the transmission :oh:

I'm waiting until I get more work done, then I'll do a full Tony style build thread :o

get busy then.. & get a better clip on that axle
