Default Trunk Mounted Subwoofer Questions

I really can't afford a custom box or the JL stealthbox. I have a great amp but I really don't know what to do about the subs. If I buy some 10" subs is it really going to make sense putting it in the trunk? Will it actually sound inside the cabin? I really do not wanna waist my money on some compotent subs and the only reason it doesn't sound good is because I have a Del Sol. I really want some thump but I really wish I had a regular trunk like a civic. If I can put it in the trunk, what kind of enclosure will do my setup justice. I know I have to buy some small enclosure subs like ImageDynamics IDQs. Thanks in advance for all your replies.

Also if anybody has a trunk setup can you please list what you have and tell how it sounds. And can you put in your top in the top.

you will be able to hear your 10's in the trunk.
i used to have 3 10's in the cabin but i blew them and now i have a 12" alpine type e sub in my trunk. i think it hits a lot harder but overall i think they will sound better in the cabin, and its not too difficult to build a custom box

I personally would either save up some cash, until I could either afford a custom box, or the JL box. I am not a huge fan of either the JL or the trunk enclosure idea. I have heard a few Sols with trunk mounted subs. They sound decent, but the quality just isn't there. In fact, I had heard a single 15 in a sol once, and I thought my 2 10" Kicker solos soundes just as clear. While mine didn't hit as hard, the sound was much better. I have found that the trunk mounted sube just sound muffled. Think about it. There is essentially a firewall between your ears and the subs.

I've got 2 12's that I used to just run with a 300 watt amp, cause I had it, and didn't know what I wanted to move up to. It sounded fine, but I was maxing out the capabilities of the amp. Now, I've got a 1200 watt amp, and it sounds a lot better. But still, a lot more boom boom than thump thump. It's just not a real tight sound. If you're still in the planning stages, delay your plans and do it right the first time, and do it in the car. Also, if you do go ahead and go with the trunk, you have to remember you need a relatively low box to make sure it clears the rack for the roof.

i had 1 10 in the trunk, sound good, did not get lots of rattle outside at all, you couldnot hear alot of bass from the back end, walk to the front end you hear lots of bass, alot more in the cabin!

i would think a sub in the cabin would make a different sounding bass than sub the in the trunk due the trunk enclosure.
