Got a problem with the Sol. HELP!!!
K guys just was coming home from getting gas and it started to run kinda rough kinda like i had cylinders missing. As i pulled into my alley it started to get really bad to where i floored it and it would barely move. Also there was huge amounts of smoke coming from exhaust and smelled really bad kinda like if its running extremely rich. When i opened the hood at first it smelled kinda like something was burning, not sure if it was just from exhaust or if something was shorting.
Thanks
Thanks
Maybe the timing belt slipped a tooth? That would explain the loss of power and the huge plumes of smoke from the exhaust. Another possibility: an injector busted, and fuel started pouring into one of the cylinders. That happened to a friend's 240SX, with more/less similar symptoms. The cylinder will have zero compression, and the engine will chug as the other three are forced to compensate... and when the plug fires, the excess fuel will be ignited and dumped, en masse, out your exhaust. Just an idea.
dont know about the timing thing mine is off alittle and it doesnt do that but check the plug to see if it broke or i found the the spark wires like to come off the cap and when that ahs happened to me i got the same symptoms as you say, but just some thoughts
It depends on the particular engine - I've seen cars where if your timing belt is off by even a tooth or two, the car will run like sh*t. Volvos, in particular, are like this. I guess Hondas can get away with it... although I'm sure there are still penalties. No engine can be designed so that the cams can be that much out of phase with the crank and still develop full power.
If you're off, the car will probably idle really strangely, and you'll lose either low-end or high-end power, depending on which way the tooth is off. With the intake/exhaust valve overlaps off, you'll lose everything below 2500 rpm or above 6000...
If you slip more than one tooth, the cam(s) will be off enough that mileage can, and often will, go down to like 10 mpg, along with really suffering performance. Often the timing belt will jump off a tooth if the tensioner is on it's way out, or not properly adjusted.
Though this probably isn't your problem, a word of warning - if the belt -is- loose, and slips further out, almost every Honda engine - including 1.6L and 1.8L - is an interference engine, and the valves may not clear the pistons, leading to some internal damage. I've heard of that happening before...
Lastly - I don't know you or your car, but if it's a turbo, your symptoms are similar to a turbo going bad - the low-power, the smoke out the back, everything...

its a stock 93 S, k last night i was trying to think of some cheap things it could be and my bros old 240sx did the same thing once and it was the pcv valve. so i go and pull it out and it breaks as it comes out so i buy a new one, put it in, and start it and it runs like new drive it all last night its fine drive it all today and its fine then i just went to leave it its doing it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Damn........ so it wasn't the PCV valve after all... although that period of working-normally is interesting. I'm not sure what else to suggest at this point... have you done any tests, like compression, etc.? Without more data than just those symptoms, it's hard to diagnose.
