1st gen B16A1 into 92-95 EX????
I am trying to find out how hard it would be to install the 1st gen B16a1 into a 92-95 civic EX. I know the plugs will be different so what will I have to do. I know I have to get the HAsport hydro to cable conversion, that will be no problem. I also already have an OBD1 ECU, so that's not a problem either. I really need information on the mounts and wiring from the 1st gen B16A1 into my 2nd gen body. Will the factory mounts link up? I heard I have to use 2nd gen injectors, is that true? Sport Compact Car magazine did this swap but I don't have that issue for a reference. All replies will be appreciated.

You should consider the 2nd generation B16. It will be actually be easier, and would cost the same if you were going to put in the 1st gen.
You'd have to deal with several issues: 1) The Cable transmission on the 1st gen, you'd have to either get a hydro tranny (so it will bolt direct to your 5gen) or you get the HAS sport converter. 2) As you mentioned, the ECU. I think you will definitely run into a problem with that, I had to use a PR3 JDM ECU from an Integra. 3) The injectors isn't a problem, you use your old ones... however, the distributor might be a problem as well. You'd need a Del Sol, GS-R, or hack up your hold one to make it work... All and all, I think your best bet is to pick up a Gen 2 JDM B16 (from an SiR II) You can download that guide from Sport Compact Car's website. The internet also has loads of information that was very helpful while I was researching. Best of luck. |
it will probably be more cost effective in the end to go with the hydro gen 2 B16A.
...also if this car is to be daily driven...check local/state laws about having an engine older than your car swapped. (it is illegal in calfornia) |
1st gen is non-OBD. Stick with 2nd gen for simplicity.
