how much does rebalancing cost? will that defiantely solve my problem???

stephan 11-16-2002 12:34 PM

$10 a wheel at Discount tires, It should fix the problem that you are saying. Unless the lugnuts aren't all tightened the same amount.

YOU MIGHT HAVE BROKEN YOUR RIGHT AXLE. MY CAR DID THE SAME THING, AND I CHANGED THE PASSENGER SIDE AXLE. GO TO A PARTS STORE AND GET ONE FOR $60 BUCKS WITH CORE. REMEMBER THIS IS JUST A GUESS!

well i am gonna try putting my rims back on to see if it goes back to normal. then i will have some sort of idea ifsomething is broken or if it is just my steelies

the symptoms you describe are that of for one unbalanced wheels... that seems to be the most logical answer.... and definately will not hurt.. putting the 17's on and checkign will eliminate a LOT of variables.. the obvious one being wheels.. but my money is still on balancing...

when i put on the c8s i used my old tires...anyhow, i never got them balaced...i drove on them, and they were fine...so i didnt even getting them done yet.

The shaking can be a couple of things:
  • unbalanced wheel: wheel weights could have fallen off
  • depending on how you stored the wheels/tires they could have a flat spot on the tires if you stored them standing up
  • could have been dropped on the lip of the wheel bending it
  • uneven torque on the lug nuts: not using a torque wrench will do this
  • you left a hub centric ring on the hub from your 17s
  • tire pressure could be different from side to side

umop-apisdn 11-16-2002 06:43 PM

Did you leave your tires pressurized while in storage? How did you stack them?

cobbcustomz 11-16-2002 06:56 PM

they were pressurized. i had them stacked like this
_ _
_ _ one on top of another 2 per stack
