Whats up all,

I drive a pretty much stock 99' Civic Si, and am looking to do a nice little tune up. I've heard some good things in the past about Denso and NGK, but Im thinking that performance plugs arent the best choice for a NA stock engine.

What would you all recommend a good spark plug for now, being a stock daily driver?


(NOTE) Eventually Im going to be rebuilding the internals and running big boost, when that happens would a more performance plug like a 1 or 2 step colder be a good option? (Ive heard that Iridiums rob horsepower unless your running high boost i.e. 25psi+ is this true?)

This is my first vehicle in which I actually care about how long it lasts, so I just want to make the right decisions on everything I upgrade even if I sound semi-n00bish doing it.

I'd go with standard NGK (copper core) which say V-power on the package. For your car the proper plug is BKR6E-11. I might also try their platinum type (not personally used) but w/ the iridium, etc. (on that car) you're just wasting your money.
If they don't carry NGK I'd go with Denso.

Gap should be .052, preferably set with a wire type gauge. edit: that's 1.4mm

 

get standard NGKs, when you go boost get one step colder NGKs

 

yup, nothing fancy just standard NGKs work the best.

Also, would upgrading the spark plug wires be a good idea or would that be a waste of 40 smacks?

 

depending on how many miles ur car has. i would also recommend you doing wires, cap and rotor and new plugs. heck do an oil change and tranny flush while ur at it. might as well.
throw in some mobile 1 and some gm synchromesh.

 

might as well do the fuel injector rails and the intake and exhuast mani's too haha. but i used to use the bosch plats 1 prong and they worked great but then again i was driving a stock 91 Accord at the time too so...
