Idle Problem plz help
Hi all,
I have a 94 Del Sol 1.6 L VTEC Modle and it has a bad surging problem with the idle...It has a few mods to it....intake, exhaust, MSD Blaster Sc coil. Any way, the surging goes between about 1,000 Rpm and 1500 Rpm. I have replaced both the IAC Valve and the Fast Idle Thermo Valve... niether one made a difference. I litterally replaced both, started the car, drove 10 feet and it started surging. I have no clue what else could be causing this. Some body plz help. Thanx |
Do you have a CEL??
|
Check for a vacuum leak before doing anything else. Also check your base idle. If the base idle is too high it can cause surging. I had the same problem on my Accord and it turned out to be the o-ring on the idle adjustment screw going bad and allowing the screw to back out too far. Once I replaced the idle screw and established the correct base idle my surging went away.

I second Cousin It's diagnosis... i had the same thing recently and it was a leaking throttle body gasket.
with the mods you mentioned, if you did them yourself recently before this happened, there may be a vaccuum leak somewhere. take the intake tube off and put your hand over the entire opening with your car running.... if it still runs its a definite vaccuum leak. dont play with any of the factory settings until you know where the problem is!!! |
It should also be noted that we're not dealing with an Accord, but a Del Slo.
Opps, typo:reechy: |
In addition to the above, next in line for checking are the THROTTLE BODY SENSOR and the MAP SENSOR.

HAHA del slo very funny LOL
ne wayz, ill run those tests and stay posted. Any other ideas are appreciated. :) thanx |
why would you just throw a new IAC and FITV into a car without properly diagnosing the problem? You are welcome in my shop anytime, you smell like money.
