type r vs d series build
im guessin it would be cheaper to buy a type r for my 97 ex than to do a full rebuild and turbo my d16y8, anyone have some advice? im looking to make my coupe about a mid 13 second car for cheap, but i wanna do it right. its also a daily driver for now so i figured a stock type r would serve well.

if you want an engine to drop in and just throw bolt on's on, get a b18c5. if you want to do other engine work, get a b18c1.

build the d series...the b18c5 alone will cost you about $4000 thats motor, tranny, ecu, everything..but then you have to figure in the cost of install and any misc. parts you need...so you could EASILY build and turbo your d series for the same if not less and make more power and be cheaper to repair....my vote is build and turbo the d16

that sounds right but down the road when im more financially stable, i would like to do internal work on the type r. i think that would be the right move, id have the motor, and then i could save up for internals. a decent turbo kit for a d16 is about two grand alone, and after all the internals and machining, i think i would blow more than four. im startin to search for everything now though so ill know for sure.

if your gonna go forced indcution take snoopy's advice and get the b18c1...if your going n/a then the b18c5 w/o question

well even then ill end up spending more than four grand on right after i get a new motor. i wanna build a na motor so im gonna end up buy i/h/e right off the bat. is it possible to use my apexi ws for a dohc motor?
|
even if going NA i would go with a b18c1. if you're going to rip out and replace the internals do it to a b18c1.
|
is the b18c5 usdm? couldnt i buy type r internals and have a c1? ive never looked into the stats that much. either way if i rebuild the d ill prolly put it in a hatch or crx for a track car.

there is a USDM b18c5 and JDM version...i THINK the only diff. is slightly high compression in the JDM version
