Default How Do get 40mpg 2006 Civc

What conditions are required to get the advertized 40mpg. I have a new 2006 Civic sedan Auto trans. I am only getting 33mpg on second tank 75% interstate driving conditions.

Most new cars take more than 2 tanks to break in and maximize fuel efficiency...no?

Yup there is a break-in period. Just make sure you follow the proper break-in procedures. Like don't drive over 60mph, don't slam on the brakes or get on the gas too hard for the 1st 1000 miles.

Also increase tire pressures can save you 1-2mpg. I would bump it up to about 2-4psi over stock. Ride might suffer, but you get more mpg.

First couple of tanks in my 2006 coupe (5 speed manual) the mileage was a bit low but by the 3rd tank I was getting 850 kms from a tank. 17 kms per litre (50 litre tank).

doing a bit of conversion thats approx 39 mpg gallon combined city/highway.

Keep the rpms under 2.5-3k in the city, bump your tire pressure to 42psi rr 40psi fr as long as the max on the tire can handle it, watch the streetlights and if they're changing coast to them you might just catch the green light and waste less gas and save some brake pads, keep your hwy speeds to 65mph or under.
