How much is reasonable to have a head gasket changed on a '95 Civic?
Been having an over heating issue for sometime. Finally it has been diagnosed as a leaking head gasket. I need the car so I have to have it fixed. How much should I expect to pay to have the head gaskey changed on a '95? Is $800 reasonable?
$650 for labor and $150 for parts. They will skim the head.

A garage will take their time doing the gasket. They get a lot of money for doing headgaskets eventhough it's not all that hard to do. That's around the area most garages will charge to do one. It's a very steep price though.
I'm getting old and being a family man of a 3 year old, who sticks to me like glue prevents me from working on the car. I have a '71 Triumph that I leasurely work on, but I need the Civic for daily commuting.
I'm sure I could have tackled the job, but it would have taken me a weekend at least.
It would take me 2 hours just to take the timing cover off as I'm assuming the timing belt has to come off before the cylinder head comes off.
