Went to the Honda dealer for a quote...and...
Well im shopping around for a 99-00 front bumper to slap on my 97 civic cx with the entire front end conversion. I found those cheap Ebay bumpers for like $20 and $60 shipping but didnt know if they are really any good. So I went to a dealer, and called another. Both said they needed the VIN to find it its American Or Jap made. I tried to explain that im doing a front end swap and it really didnt matter and they kinda gave me a funny look.
So what do i need one for then, a American or a Jap made civic? Also are the coupe, HB, and sedan front bumpers all the same? Because i just got a quote for a 00 civic SI for $160 from the dealer. and a link to a "ebay" bumper http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-00...15966735QQrdZ1 Should I stick with good ole fashion OEM and just get the stock bumper? Also got the quote for the front lip...holy shit the front lip for a 00 si is more than the entire bumper at $237:eek: |
The front bumper on ebay looks pretty good as long as fitment is good.. but that is something you wouldnt know until you got it. Just get a cf lip for it or even look for the si lip on ebay...
|
get the ebay bumper. I did, when i got rid of my body kit (came on the car when i bought it) and both the front and back bumpers are really well made. Mine came with plate moldings and holes and everything. Go with the ebay bumper and spend the rest on that expensive lip ::thumbsup::

i bought that bumper earlier this year. i ended up throwing it away. shitty fitment at the fender lining and at the bottom of the headlights. i just bought an OEM one for 160$

The hatchback, coupe, and sedan have the same front bumper. With the ebay bumpers, it's hit or miss, you could get lucky and get a good one your first time or you could try two or three before getting the right fit, whereas OEM will fit the first time. And yeah, the front lip is pricey since it is no longer produced anymore.

But what was the dealer talking about with the Jap or American civics having different bumpers??? He isnt talking about a CTR bumper is he?
How about the Ebay fenders, they should be good though shouldnt they? I was thinking about just getting the fenders off ebay, a junkyard hood, ebay grill, ebay headlights and do the CTR gunmetal paint mod and probably a OEM bumper new. And just slap all that together until spring comes and my new CF hood and paint job. |
jdmshit.com has cheap, urethane oem bumpers
|
id say beware of the ebay bumpers, some of them are made of a different plastic(not sure what its called) and although they may look and fit the same they are more brittle and are more likely to crack if you happen to park to close and hit the curb especially if your lowered. But if you can find a good oem one for cheap on ebay go for it!
Does anyone know what plastic is used on oem stuff?? |
isn't it something called polyfiber ??? don't know, that is the only type of plastic/urethane name that comes to mind.
|
im just going to go new oem bumper and get a lip off ebay and fenders off ebay, and a junkyard hood until i get my cf hood.
