Car heating up

My gauge for the cars temp. Doesn't stay constant. Does this mean there is something wrong with it or my car?

How much does it move? Does it do it all of the time, or just if you are pulling a steep grade?

Mine stays pegged durring normal driving. The only time I have seen mine move is when I was driving through the mountains between AZ and CA and I was pulling a steep grade for a long time (it was also very hot outside).

You may need to replace your thermostat, which is easy and inexpensive.

My friend had a problem similar to that. He needed to to replace his temerature sensor. That was in a Cavilier so it might be different for us Civics, but thats my thought.

Where can I get it from? And it funny you say inexpensive but for my friends caddy he had to pay a lot to get it changed.

Get it from the dealership. It's like a $15 part. Easy to do yourself.

Get it from autozone for 14 dollars and new gaskets... at the dealer you get it for 15 dollars but need to buy the gaskets separetely, but at the end theres nothing like the original parts..IMO

Where is the thermostat located?

Outxider 11-30-2005 12:22 PM

follow the lower radiator hose towards the motor. the end of it is connected to the thermostat housing. two 10mm bolts and its off leavin you with the thermostat in plain view.
