EPA Mileage numbers are next to impossible to attain in real life. I remember reading an article on how they get those numbers. They have no accesorries on and don't drive more then like 45 or 50 mph.
If you want to improve your MPG you have to be reall good about checking your Tire pressure. I would say put in 2 or 3 psi more then what is on the tag in the door jamb. Also if you can reduce the weight of the car ( unsprung weight works the best) it will help with your MPG. Just some hints for you(you might have thought of these already)

Seems hard to believe that we've allways had fuel efficient cars available, just that no one bought the VX. Mileage as good as the Insight according to EPA. The car is designed to get that with the Vtec-E. Look at the specs at MSN Auto for the VX hatch @...

I have also read how the EPA does the testing, but you should be able to get close to that. The car has allways had a little jerk or flat acceleration thing is does at certain RPM. I've never been able to figure it out. I'm kinda hoping that the new motor will have all the sensors in good shape to take care of that and be the MPG problem.
I do drive easy on the gas. Especially as gas has gone up.

Agreed. EPA numbers should be pretty easy to hit. I think the 05 Civic EX is rated to get about 34 mpg on the highway, which sounds low to me (I think that's the number I remember reading on the dealer window sticker). My 96 EX has been averaging between high 34's to about mid 37's on a mix of in-town and highway driving almost 400 miles a week. Can't wait to take on a road trip to see what it does on pure highway.
I don't drive like a bat out of hell, but I don't drive like gramma either...
