Car won't go anymore

I was driving at the track today LACR and I was racing a mustang GT, when I reached 120 the car wouldn't go anymore (they are currently extending the track that is how I reached that high) These were just practice runs (tuesday's are practice run days). At 119 you could hear the car and once it hit 120 it is like the car stopped, it felt like the fuel cut off or something, anoyone know why? I don't think I have a governor because it is a JDM motor with a JDM ECU. Someone said since I have b16 y1 tranny that my gears short, especially my final gear. But I was only at 7000RPM when the car wouldn't go anymore, and I redline at 8200.

Mine doesn't go anyfaster than 120 and it struggles to reach that. And I too have the jdm b16 with jdm p30.

hm... i dunno... i've hit 120 with my 93 ex... and thats just got a z6... seems like a b16 should be able to do a bit better than that...

Maybe it has something to do with the factory ECU settings. A speed limiter perhaps? I know alot of top-end sports cars have those, but maybe EVERY car has one? if that is the case, then you need to hook up one of those tuning computers to your ECU and change the settings.

My bros old accord shuts off right around 120 also. It has something to do with your ecu it has a fuel shut off at a certain speed....

so should I change the ecu? chip it? or what?

Snoopy Sep 7, 2005 07:18 AM

how often are you hitting those speeds that it's even an issue?

anyway..if you do have a limiter, chipping the ecu would eliminate it.

I know this was my first time going that fast, but now it is going to bug me knowing I am restricted

It climbs up to like 110 then slows down almost instantly, then it gradually picks up to 120.

My 00 civic ex (auto) hits 105mph very quickly and it very slowly climbs to the 120's... one time i hit 122 and my car cut off as you mentioned, the lights became dim and it felt like it surged or maybe had that fuel cut you've mentioned. btw my car isn't ne where near stock, but it's also not boosted, so i'm curious to know if boosting it would push the car to speeds beyond the scope of my gauges. since my car is auto, if i drive in D3... it will hit 115mph quickly but it stops there as it hits the rev limiter for that gear. I really don't get why on D4 which is the 4 gears all together it doesn't hit that 115mph so quickly, it's a big limitation when racing.
