head=cylinder head. It bolts to the top of your block. It's the thing that contains your valvetrain and cams, and it's like the lid on your engine. It holds all the explosions in.

head = refering to the cylinder head on the engine.

long block = like stated is the block and the head complete minus the tranny.

OBD = Is "on board diagnostics" version on cars previous to 1995.
OBD2 = All cars built since January 1, 1996 have OBD-II systems. Manufacturers started incorporating OBD-II in various models as early as 1994. Some early OBD-II cars were not 100% compliant.
here's a pic of the connector. where you plug in the scanner to pull codes and information from the car's computer.

DIY = Do it yourself. When you want to know how you can perform tasks like making a custom grill insert...that would be a DIY.

There is no standard OBD2 plug on pre-96 Civics. You can short the SCS connector behind the passenger's kick panel with the proper jumper or a peice of wire. Once shorted, the check engine light will blink the error code.

There is a non-standard diagnostic plug in the car, but you will need an adapter and a $200+ scanner to use it.
