'94 Honda Civic Del Sol and it's problems

 Hey everyone, I'm new to this site. The reason I am here is because just a moment ago I found myself in a unexpected situation pertaining to my car. Decided to head over to the local Mom & Pop Shop for some grub, but on my return home my car began to rev up and down as if I had my foot on the gas then off again. If that makes any sense. Anyway, once after that happened my car began to overheat so I then turned off my engine and waited for it to cool down abit before proceeding home. I believe that this could maybe be caused from an over due oil change or small leak. However, I am clueless  when it comes to mechanical expertise  , therefore seek out any other suggestions that could possibly explain more as to my situation and solutions in correcting the problem. Any advice, suggestions, blah, blah, blah.... etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again....
Daisy

check all your vacuume lines, a shaky idle can be a vacuume leak. The overheating could be a couple of things, check your coolent, see if it looks "dirty", if it does you might have a blown headgasket.

This happened to me, and it turned out my radiator was completely out of coolant. Could be as simple as filling up the radiator.

Well that was it! You guys were right!!! All I needed was to refill the coolant because it was bone dry!!! Thanks so much for your help... Wish I could be of more assistance, but as you already know, I am clueless when it comes to these sorts of things!!! Although, with your help, I am becoming a little more aware of what to look for, etc.... Thanks Again!!!
Take it easy,
Daisy

I got some pics :) however, they were taken from my cell phone and I haven't been able to reduce them down in size yet in order to post them on this site.... Don't lose all hope though ;) , I will get them in order when time allows me to do so... Until then, take it easy, Daisy
