01 civic ex faster than 96-00 civic ex???

Hi i am aware that the new civics come with a 1.7l engine and i know that they come with the same HP but do they have more torque than the d16y8 engine and is that body style in any way faster then the 96-00 body? and i am talking bout the coupe.

2000 Honda Civic EX Coupe 8.4 16.7

2001 Honda Civic EX

0-60 = 8.4 sec.
1/4 mile = 16.7 sec.
1/4 speed = 84 mph

Taken from 2 different sources, but they seem to be equal.
