yeah, i've done everything to get the black ring off from my gauges, i unscrewed the two screws on top and i have pulled and pushed and tried to break and everything else to get this thing off, but the small knob to change the brighness of the gauges and the small knob for a tripometer are in the way. i bought a chrome gauge bezel for it from www.gaugebezels.com and i really wanna get it on. someone help. ive got a 2002 honda civic lx model

the black trim piece has the 2 screws at the top and then 2 CLIPS at the bottom. Put your steering wheel straight down as low as it will go, and pull it straight out. Also the part wherew the screws go in have a ledge, so you could pull the top side out a bit first to clear the dash.

After that it's 4 more screws to get out your guage cluster. Worse case if you cant take it out, maybe you should get someone to do the whole thing for you. I wouldnt want you to mess up your guages, they are pretty pricey, but I only get them from the dealer.

mine came out easy. I have removed mine about 20 times, to add stuff to my cluster, or replace it, or change the speedo because of a ticket, (I have one thats off 15mph!), I would have to show you i guess, but I'm sure your no where near me.

you could pay a guy at best buy a soda to do it for you, or if he smokes, a cigarette. it really is 2 sec. to do. Maybe your clips are now bent and need to be broken off?

just put some muscle into it and pull it out. I find that its easiest to squeese my fingers between the clear plastic and the trim piece near the bottom and pull straight out. It takes a good deal of pressure to get it out the first time.

just make sure you are getting the screw behind the emergency flasher button too. I took mine off today. broke a couple of the clips, but you cant tell once you put it back on.

In response to Hondaken's query, i have to add this - I was doing the same project last night. I unscrewed the top part but had a lot of difficulty to get it free from the bottom because of the damn clips. Well...i applied some force and it came out after a while but the two clips broke. I have put it back on now and you cant really tell as to what has happened.

I was trying to change the gauge bulbs actually.....i installed the new 194s in amber but the distribution of light was uneven....plus i was kinda confused as to how many bulbs i need. I saw one large bulb socket right in the middle of the back, one small on top and two small ones on either ends at the back.

There were several other bulbs on the top side (either side of the middle small bulb). The four bulbs i mentioned about earlier were white with blue condoms on it.

After trying for a while.....i just decdied to let go and put the OEM bulbs back on.
