My car will not stay running
I cant figure out what is wrong with my car, When I put the key in and turn it to the on position all the electrical stuff works, the lights, radio, etc.... then when I go to start it, it will start but when I let the key click back to on then the engine dies. but if I leave it in start it stays running. Also if you turn the key back just so the starter turns off the car still runs but when it hits on it dies. I got it to work a couple times by strating it then clicking it back to on then jiggaling the key. I cant figure this out. I dont think that it is the ignition switch because everything else works in the car, I know its not the starter because it runs without the starter, and I dont think that It could be the fuel pump or filter, and I just replaced the alternater. Please help if you can I am pulling my hair out.
I have the same problem. My car just got a new ignition module. So... I have no clue what it could be. Same thing happens to mine as yours but my car will start and stay running; but when I touch the gas it feels like its being flooded. Fuel pump? I don't really have the $ to spend on all these parts or a mechanic to fix this. So if any one could help us out that would be great or even ideas of what the cause could be. Timing belt?
the tumbler is still good, what you need to replace is the switch on the back that has point contacts on it. you will need to cut it from another car and splice back in. or go to the dealer and get stuck in the rear with the price. i have had a couple of friends that this has happened to. local wrecking yard should have it.

The components that are on the "Hot when on" circuits need power when the key goes from the start position to the on position. If the car starts then there is a good enough connection at the on position when rotating the key clockwise. However, if when you turn the key counter clockwise to the on position and the car dies, I would start looking at the ignition switch.
To let you all know I fixed the problem with a 5 dollor switch from radio shack. I bybassed the ignihion but you still need the key to start the car and to unlock the wheel. and I dought that my $300 alternater broke after 3 or 4 months.
