Default E brake Doesnt Work

My e Brake Doesnt work i pull it up and i just falls right down. I have no idea what could be wrong i have a 92 honda civic dx hatch. could i get help please thanks.

remove the console and watch for the gears as you pull it up, see if the lock hits when it ratchets

the cables either came loose or the tensioner came off. take off the armrest/center console to check.

Yeah, what they said.

There will be one cable connected to the lever going to a bar which is connected to two cables leading down through the chassis (to the rear wheels). There are screws which will tighten the slack of the two cables. That's how you add tension.

if all of that didnt work and u find its the parking brake problem (to the drums) it will be costly to fix... just park on first gear (i did that with my 88 hatch a while back).

if there is normal resistance on the handle while pulling it up then the brakes are fine.
Make sure that the ratcheting latch in the center housing (just under the handle) is working and the spring isn't broken. Also make sure that the button that you press in isn't gummed up with something and held in all the time.

even if the cables are off, it should still stand up when pulled - its a ratchet
