Default question about engine.

Honda only made enough VTEC valve covers to put them on like a third of thier D16's.
Assuming that's what comes in those models.
But the key to it is your civic is an EX. It had the better driveline and premium sound system. Along with pretty much power everything I think....

I don't know... There may not even be any out there for the getting. But then again there just may. So many people do swaps that there are bound to be some D series engines just sitting around out there. You might even be able to get a whole new engine for fairly cheap. And then use it for parts if ever you need them.

the vtec valve covers are greyish, too

92-95 16z6's (kinda like the d16y8 engine that you have, SOHC vtec) had the 'vtec' stamped valve covers, but like bluetwo said, not all of them had that cover.

all the 96-00 d-series have the same valve cover stock. they all say 'honda' on it.

maybe you've seen pics of people who took a valve cover from the z6 engine and put it on the y8. Sometimes they paint it, too....

No, they didn't "run out," they just stopped making them.

Why is it so "cool" to have a valve cover that says VTEC, anyway? It's just a D-series. Your VTEC system won't work any better just because your valve cover advertises it.

im not a complete newb...when i asked about the vtec thing i just assumed anything vtec had a vtec valve cover...most "speed" shops sell vtec valve covers for sohc engines just shop around they can be anywhere from 50 bucks to 100 bucks
