odometer question

Default odometer question

ok guys i have a question my girl has a 2001 civic and she broke her gauge cluster my question is if i replace it will it reset her milage cause she has very low milage and i would hate to install a new one and it be higher milage than what she gots does the computer retain the info or is it the gauge cluster please help thanks

You can find places that match your odometer with a newer one. I had to do this when mine fried.

They actually give you paperwork and engrave the odometer so incase you sell the car later it's all legal - so it doesn't look like you tampered with the odometer.

bump what? he answered your question already. The computer has no control of the mileage on the cluster.

how much would something like that cost? and where would one of those places be?

A used cluster probably $40-$50, to have them reset the mileage and have it certified would be around $100 depending on the place you go to.

Any speedo shop can do this for you. If you can't find one in the area, call the local PD and ask them where people take their speedos to get checked. I know lots of people that fight tickets because they say their speedo was off. They take it in and get it checked and if the speedo was off, they get a reduced ticket.

Sometimes the local dealer can do it too.

The local dealer will ALWAYS know where to get it done, either there or a place to do it for you... if not, they'll make a phone call to find out. Trust in your local dealer for info, even if you don't trust them with your car.
