flywheel/emissions ?'s
OK, two quick questions:
Supposed you have a D16Z6 with a lightened flywheel and a DX(D15B7) tranny. Would that be comparable to a D16Z6 with a corresponding EX tranny with stock flywheel?
And lastly, if you were to put a Greddy turbo kit, just the kit, on a D16Z6, would it pass emissions? The car just has a cat back exhaust and intake(dont know if the intake would affect anything).
In case you were wondering, the southeastern part of NC is starting to do emissions and my buddy is freaking out. He's got a Greddy kit on his EX and worried that it wont pass.
Thanks!!!

the kit wont pass emissions unless it is a CARB exempt kit, like the edelbrock
unsure about flywheel.
edit: oh your not in CALI, I wouldnt worry about Carb, but I would have your buddy get a sniffer test ASAP.

ok will do...i dont know how stringent they are going to be about it. I got my regisration dues for my car and it had a slip of paper saying NC is starting with emissions. Good news, for awhile anyways, they arent starting it until January of 2006 in my county!!
I guess that could put a damper on things around here. If he were to run alcohol, do an oil change, and slightly advance the timing just for the emissions test, it should pass correct? Even with the turbo? What exactly does the emissions test for?
My dad was saying thats what him and his friends used to do in New Jersey for their emissions test. And he was saying they make you run the car at 55 mph and then take the sniff test. I dont know how it is anywhere else but I hope it doesnt get to that here.
Anyone else have any ideas on the flywheel question up top??? I know there is a guy on this board that has an EG hatchback with the D16Z6 motor, lightened flywheel, and D15B7 tranny. Anyone know his screen name?

The flywheel has no impact on emissions.
A turbo kit, properly tuned, should pass an emissions inspection just fine.
Emissions tests sniff for carbon monoxide (CO,) hydrocarbons (HC,) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx.) Different levels of each can indicate different problems. The visual protion is just that... looking to see that the emissions equipment is all there. All they are really looking for on a Civic is the catalytic converter.

oh ok, sounds simple enough.
actually my question on the flywheel was:
a D16Z6 w/ lightened flywheel and D15B7 tranny=D16Z6 w/ corresponding tranny and stock flywheel? as far as acceleration goes.

In January of 2006 every county will be the same. 95-older will be just safety and the 96-up will be obd2 inspections. I know this because I do inspections here in NC.
