Default VIN code - Can anyone help

Looking at a 95 Hatchback but want to know which one it is. I think it's the 8th digit that tells CX, VX, DX etc, but not sure. The vin is 2HGE42464SH...... Can anyone tell me if this is CX,DX, VX?

Look at the car instead of studying the VIN. Youlle be able to tell if its a CX, VX, or DX by the motor it has in it and also by the features the car has.

Not familiar enough with them to know one from the other based on features. The car is an hour from here and I can't look at it to see features. I want to have an idea of the book value when I go because I may want to make an offer on it but they vary a good bit. Far as I can find out, they're all the same and they all have 1.5 SOHC engines, but the HP ranges from 70 in a CX, to 92 in a VX, to 102 in a DX. How can you tell the engines apart by looking at them?

the VIN will not tell you what trim it is. the VIN you provided doesnt even look like a Civic VIN.

the 4-6 characters should be EH3 or EH6.

You're right, the guy read it to me over the phone. He probably should have read 2HGEH2464SH.......(the first 4 he gave me is probably an H, then four digits, then the year "S" which is 95)

hmm...even that wont tell you what trim model it is. you need to look at the engine bay and the car itself to determine it.

the VIN will only tell you the manufacturing plant, year, type of car (passenger) and production number.

ask the seller to see pictures of the engine and car itself. we can ID the car for you with motor shots and car exterior/interior shots.

No pics available. Can you tell me how to ID it from the engine or something else? I've already booked it out all three ways just to get a range. I'll be fine if I can figure out which one it is when I get there.

The CX has an 8 valve head and cat converter in front of the engine, the VX a 16v VTEC-E head and cat infront of the engine and the DX a normal 16v head with an under-car cat. If you can't tell the difference by that:

Look at the engine block stamp, halfway down beside the exhaust manifold.
D15B8: CX
D15B7: DX/LX
D15Z1: VX
(D16Z6: Si/EX)
