Default possible ECU swap

As the sig says i have a 1997 civic with a jdm b18c engine and jdm type r ecu. Problem with that ecu is that it has a speedlimiter at 200KPH which i would like to remove

a budy of mine says that he has an sir ECU that is unlocked for the speed but has an 8200rpm rev limiter. since i never go anywhere near 8000rpm before shifting i don't think that would be problem. what wories me is that the vtec is set to kick in at 4800rpm instead of 6200rpm like mine.

I'm wondering if that would be a good thing to have or bad given that i have the type r tranny which turns at ~3500rpm at 60 miles/hour.

any opinions on this would be apreciated because i don't want to blow my engine either :a:

why do you need to remove a speed limiter for 200 kph? That's ~124 mph for us Americans. :goodjob:

Do you really go faster than that all that often? If so... :ugh:

reason is that when racing it annoys me rather seriously when someone passes be just because the computer says i'm going fast enough. I want to be able to go as fast as the car and myself can handle in the given situation and i can handle faster than 200kph in some of those situations

You can get the limiter removed, but it's stupid if you ask me. Unless you're racing on a sanctioned track (which, I know you're not) there's no reason for you to be going that fast on public streets and endangering others around you. It's jmo and I'm not your mom or anything, I just don't see the point. You'd rather take the chance of killing yourself and possibly someone else going 120+ mph just to win a race on the street.

Again, it's your life and your car, I just hope you don't take some innocent kid down with you.

I fully agree about the kids and such, when i race it's a deserted road with not so much as a house within several miles of our location and it is thoroughly verified that nobody else is around

there are only 2 people involved or at risk, myself and the person that's racing me so both people know and accept the risk

i think it's OBD2. it's from a 2000 ITR

thing is that before doing the swap to the sir ECU i wanna be sure it's safe for the engine and such. if it is it will be a cheap way to remove the speed limiter because i can get the ecu for free from a buddy

otherwise i'll wait till i can get it chipped properly but, from the info i have, that's more expensive to do on the jdm ecu than the US one
