Chips for sol's?

Hi all.

Just curious if anyone has any experience chipping their sol or know of any chips that work well in giving honda motors a bit more punch.

I am thinking about getting one for one of my sol's as my brother and dad have exact same 2003 Chev trucks, one chipped one not and there is a lot of difference when you drive them. Significant difference in power off line and beyond.

Has me wondering about options for Honda products.

Thanks.

Not really familiar with chips, but I do know that, if you're willing to spend the money, they have pre-programmed ECU's and stuff. It has stuff like a higher rev limit and other such stuff. I dunno, I'm not too big of an electronics wizard.

a chip isnt really going to do shit if you dont have anything done.

I'd love to swap to the DOHC or even the 1.8 vtec but wonder if i could ever get the money out of the car when selling. 2000 dollars plus is too rich for my blood.

Hoping to do a cold air intake, exhaust and some other goodies to keep the cost down. 400-500 dollars is more my range tops. Any suggestions??

1.8 VTEC :wavey: its a Honda. You know the scene. It's a hobby. I know I will NEVER EVER get the money out of my Honda if I go to sell it, but that's not what it's about. I'm about 8 grand under my hood with engine swap and everything. That's asside from buying the car for 6k, and doing misc repairs, etc. I know that money is gone, but I like my car and what I've done with it. I dont plan on selling it. Ever. I will keep that baby garaged up and be buried in it before I sell it.

Absolutely true. All a chip can do to a n/a Honda is adjust the fuel mapping, raise/lower the redline, and adjust VTEC engagement. That's really about it. The fuel mapping is 90% of that change, but it will be totally minimal on a stock engine.

Chips are really one of the LAST steps on a n/a small-displacement engine. Wait until you have a larger throttle body, larger manifold, cams, valve work, maybe port/polish, etc... then when you're flowing a lot more air, you'll start seeing big gains from a modified ECU. Or if your power band is raised/lowered.

Everyone hears stories of VWs and Audis making huge gains with chips, but for a more or less stock Del Sol, it won't do much at all.

On another note, $400-500 is just about enough for a good CAI and exhaust, plus some other small stuff.

your on your way to a turbo with that much. but then again, you dont have any exhaust done...so nevermind.
