Trouble shooting a noise

I have a 99 Civic LX only 50k miles. Recently I've been hearing a slightly odd hissing noise (similiar sound i hear from old cars driving by) but it only happens in the Drive gears ( d4 and D3 ) and not in any other gears. I don't hear it until higher RPMS or if i press the gas about 3/4's the way down.... what could it be?

maybe its time for you to change your tranny fluid. i hope you didnt forget.

Fluid changed 3k's ago.

I don't hear the noise while coasting or slowing down, only right when i tap the gas...even if the RPM's is high, it doesn't appear until i tap the gas. Also i only hear it from the driver side but i can't hear it over at the passanger side.

Can you tell if it's coming from the front or rear of the car?

Front

just to throw in another element..

could it be possible that you are getting engine whine from your speakers?? :dunno:

i have the same problem, i was told it could a leak in a vaccum hose and the wind blowing through engine bay could be causing it to make the sound, make sense to you?

YeaItsAFourDoor 11-11-2003 01:49 PM

Yea that makes sense, it's just that it makes my car sound like and old Volvo or something.. but it's coo it don't bother me that much, just making sure it wasn't something major.

As for the speaker whine, yea that's like one of the first things i thought about but i stuck my head out the window (ace ventura style) and could hear the noise from the engine bay.

By the way...how to correct this?
