Default Help On Check Engine Light Please!

My friend has a 99 Civic LX with about 88K. His check engine light came on last night. The day before he lost his gas cap. We replaced the gas cap and the air filter (which was dirty), but the light is still on. He stopped at a service station and they told him the code was P1456. Anyone know what this means??? How can we get the light to go off.

Reset the ECU and see if the light comes back on. For that year I believe you pull the back-up fuse for 10 seconds. Be advised that you radio will loose power as well when this fuse is pulled, so have a radio code if needed.

yea all you have to do is reset the ECU,..unplug the negative battery terminal for 10 mins,...plug back up and start the car,..DO NOT touch the throttle at all,..let the car idle for 10 mins WITHOUT touching the throttle once,..once 10 mins is up,..turn off the car and then turn back on and your good to go

I don't think he has the radio code!! He bought the car used at a Toyota dealer and I guess they didn't give him all the stuff that was originally with the car.

Is There any way to reset the ECU without having to put the radio code in again??h:

Check the coin tray, manual or if all else fails go to a dealership. They can pull the radio code and it should be no charge.

Thanks guys for your help. Looks like his car does not have anti-theft radio or the immobilizer system. When I told him we might have to re-enter the radio code after disconnecting the battery, he told me he has disconnected the battery many times and never needed a code to get it started again.
