question -- how do i get the string off the bridge?
Once you get the string off the tuner pull the string all the way off then the little pegs on the bridge just pull them out slowly with a pair of needle nose pliers. Then just pull the string out, jiggle it a little it it seems stuck.
You can download programs that play a E note and tune it with that. A cheap and decent tuner is around $25 or so.
