you just need to give everything enough time to seat correctly... but after a few hundred miles i say drive it like you're going to...

yea, heard about that too... not good for the engine to rev over 6k before a couple hundred miles or around 1000 miles.

Well for every engine built it goes straight to a dyno to make sure it works and idles around 1500-2000 for 30 secs. But I would still be easy on it till it was around at least 500. Just so everything seats right and is ready for the stress.

the reason you aren't supposed to run it past 6k rpms is because thats where VTEC kicks in on an SI and puts alot more stress on the motor. I would definitely take it easy the first 1000 miles since many cars will consume oil and pretty much ruin the motor if you drive it like you stole it off the lot (happened to alot of EVOs). If you read the manual, they usually list the recommend MPH shift points and i would shift at those points until 1-2k miles to make sure everything breaks in OK, its worth a few weeks of slow driving for a longer lasting engine.

vtec has little to do with it, but everything else you said is correct.

New SI at the track with no miles on it? Haha...that sucks, his K will last 20-30k miles before it blows cause he obviously isn't gonna go through the break in period (First 1500 miles but I would go to 5000 if I paid for a brand new SI)

I would think they should run high 14s to low 15s with 197 hp. Maybe since it's only 139 torque... :dunno:

Default heavy?

by heavy, you mean it ways 2800 pounds? The evo for 06 weighs 3200 or 3300 pounds, depending on the model- but it starts at 29 or 30K, at least! The eclipse weighs between 3300 and 3500 pounds. plus, both of these cars have MIVEC engines- and although I know they're similar to vtec, talk about a ridiculous name! the scion TC weighs 2900 pounds, has a 2.4 L DOHC that puts out 160 some odd horsepower, and is 16K somethin'. that's if you want nothing. I put everything I wanted on it (via the website) and ended up at 23,465- and that doesn't include the supercharger kit that TRD will install for you. and for some weird reason you can't combine an auto dimming rear-view mirror with all of the side curtain air bags, which don't come standard.
the chevy cobalt ss super? ick. it's comparable in price and weight, but again, doesn't come with some features I like on the honda. enterprise put me up in a cobalt sedan while my Si was getting worked on and the thing just SUCKED.
I could look up other cars, like maybe a GTI, but really, what's the point? yeah, the Civic Si is heavy when compared to, say, my grandmother.
