Racing Harnesses
I debated creating a new thread for this, but...
Looking for a harness to use for autocross. Are there any restrictions on brands used? Can I get generic?

most recent SFI rating is 16.1 (fire proof)
you'll want to get a cam lock mechanism as they are easier to latch and unlatch
i'm not an autocrosser but instead road race and PCA/NASA/SCCA are require to a true 5 point harnesses (3" wide for lap & shoulder belts, 2" wide for anti submarine belt) affixed to the roll cage or car frame

Make sure you buy a 3" harness. I had a generic 2" wide strap harness and it would dig into your shoulders and waist. Hurt like crazy.
Then my sponsor purchased me a 3" wide M&R camlock 5 point harness and it's nice. Make sure you get pull up waist belts and pull down shoulder harness belts. Also make sure you install them correctly.
Or you can do the cheap'o way of twisting your belt before you lock it. Take the tab of the seat belt and twist it one full turn with your seat all the way pushed back. Then lock the seat belt. Tug tight to tighten it against your wait. Tug on the shoulder part until it locks, then hold the belt while you move your seat forward. Works for me since I instruct in so many different cars.

I've got mine coming in the mail sometime soon. It's a generic cheap little thing - probably only 2 inches accross.
All I really need, though, is something to strap me in my seat for each one minute run. I'll probably end up devising some foam strips to make it more comfortable, but I'm not to worried about it.
I'll be sure to let you guys know about how the install/use goes.

My twisting the stock seat belts is more comfortable than the generic 2" wide belts.

we use g force harnesses (well most 944 cup drivers) as they are high quality and comfortable - but speeds do get up to 150mph+ especially at CMP so extra security is needed compared to autox
