Selling the Speed3 and need some advice

I'll be straight forward...here is the craigslist ad (http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/cto/3127706120.html). I've seen this car at dealers at around $17K, carmax around $18k and on craigslist around $15 as private party loaded with mods...I do owe on the car still so I would like to clear that out and have some extra to buy a filler.

I need to get out form under the loan, hence selling it...plus I wouldn't mind something more economical and some other features that I just don't/can't add to this car.

So my question to you all...what would you offer? what would you accept? what would you change about the listing be it positive or negative?

I am hesitant accepting anything under $13k because that would leave me with $3K to buy a filler (thinking Protege5). I currently only have 1 offer at $10K which I think is a very low offer and car is worth more than that.

    Thanks HAN!

Your $10K buyer is out of his mind. Tell him as much. :o But OTOH, I wouldn't use your neighborhood car dealer as a benchmark.
Odds are, they're still pricing cars like it was last summer, when Japanese production was devastated.
They may also be trying to con buyers into thinking the MS3 is more rare than it is.

Since I figure Carmax would offer around 13K, so I'd open with $13.5K.
But honestly, I don't think $3K is going to get you very much in today's market.
A clapped-out first-gen CRV would fit your wish list, but it's going to need a timing belt, brakes, clutch and maybe even half-shafts at that price point.

Seems like false economy to me...

Anytime an ad is listed with a bunch of CAPS and extra EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!, I tend to run the opposite way.

If your serious about selling it,stay away from Craigslist.
Craigslist/San Diego section is full of scam artist,Low Ballers and crooks.
Put it in the auto trader if you want to sell it fast and to the right clientele.

Edit: Also wash clean engine compartment

too bad you don't live in Michigan, that thing would go for 15k alllllll day.

Clean up the engine bay it looks like shit. Spend the 50 bucks to put it properly on Autotrader, you will be happy you did. I wouldn't take anything less than 13.5k on it realistically.

If you haven't sold it in a few weeks, I'm gonna have the free for-sale section up on http://myAutoSearch.com . It gets very good traffic, but it is just dealership inventory as of today. I'll let ya know and get you in there as soon as I'm ready for my developers to test.

Thanks for the advice! I was hesitant to put it up on autotrader, but I think thank everyone is voting yes, that I will take the leap and list it.

1.) I thought the pics (out of camera) we very good...I did add some minimal linear contrast, but I can take all that off and turn it back to raw images...I am not a good post editor...
2.) Haven't gone to carmax in over 2 years, but back then they were offering 10K when it was worth way more than that...would humor them to see what they say now.
3.) I am pretty set on the Protege5 with it having all I am looking for and near the price point...I know it would be a higher mileage car, but who am I kidding thinking I would get a low mileage car for that price. I might consider the Matrix (just so damn bland...and I don't know their price point).

Just to reiterate what others have said: lose THE CAPS, and shine up the engine bay with some product. I know it's meaningless, but it sells. When I sold my old volvo, I'm pretty sure the under-hood detail is what sealed the deal.

And just as a general strategy, whenever I'm trying to sell on CL, I look at the KBB value and price the car around that (or *slightly* higher if there is something special about the car that KBB doesn't reflect) and then expect to actually settle slightly below KBB. I have used this strategy successfully several times. What you need to get out of it for a replacement car is irrelevant, just wipe that completely out of your head. Fair market value is whatever a willing and able buyer will pay.

    There's my $.02

:edit: oh, and put WRX in your keywords

    Down here as well.

I was offered 14k for my redline two years ago, even though it blue-booked for under 12. I see 2006ish civic si's go for like 14 all the time.

i work for geico, i look up cars all day long... a 1994 chrysler new yorker? ... really? yeh, lady had one today...

i'm on auto trader every day because i personally am going to need a car somewhat soon.

it's hard to find a speed3 within 75 miles of buffalo. maybe one or two and the prices are around the 13k - 14k.

    wrx's are impossible to find.

found an 08 accord with 17k miles

HAHAHA>..Got this as an offer today:

Hi there. I'm not sure if you would consider this to be a lowball offer or not, but the absolute most I can offer you is $10,000 cash. There's not much of a market for these cars(slower than most sports cars, not as economical as the mazda3), and there's definitely not many people walking around with $10K in their pocket, ready to spend. I had a really nice truck that I was advertising for $15K(way below KBB) and ended up taking $10K after about a year of advertising, so I know how soft the market is right now. If this is an offer you would consider, let me know. If not, keep it on the table and get back to me if you change your mind. Thanks for your time.

Cl is horrible. I put my REAL work wheels from the s2k up for 1k. All I got was emails for $600. People also thought they came with good tires for that. I just stopped responding to people. Also when selling my mugen ht I was getting offers for what replicas go for.
