I respect everybody's opinion, but until you've been in close-call scenarios with people carrying a weapon, you can speculate and judge all you want.

It was a matter more of public safety in this case.

I am not gonna lie I am mixed in this case because he should be able to walk along unimpeded while open carrying in a state that allows for open carry.

My issue here is where it comes into public conditioning that gun=bad so they call in for an open carry complaint for fear of public safety. The officer at this point by sworn duty has the obligation to go out and check the situation because of public complaint.

Does this mean he needs to check ID and run it to make sure he isn't a felon doing the "hide in plain sight" thing? If I were an officer I would think it prudent to do a simple check that takes a total of maybe 5 minutes with cooperation, or it can be a 15 minute debacle with arguments.

The fact that he would then have to prove himself innocent in this instance becomes a bigger issue and a violation of his civil rights, which I am absolutely against.

I could go back and forth playing devils advocate with myself all day long, but in the end even though I disagree with needing to do this, handing him your ID proving you are legal is a lot less hassle and sets everyone at ease....but then it sets a precedent again for having to prove innocence...and the argument goes on
