4th gen hatchback ro CRX, either si or dx, depending on what class you want to run in. the si's are ruling sts right now and the dx should is great for running in stock class (plus they are easier to find).

Don't worry about the car, worry about the driver. Autocross is 90% driver and 5% car. I know several guys in my region who can jump in any car and just hand you your ass. Whether it be a INtegra Type R or a Ford Fiesta. Learn how to drive and you don't have to worry which car is the best for autocross.

an nice old 4g civic or 2g crx (even a 1g crx) is a good platform...they are cheap and good cars to thrash about as they can take abuse when learning
from what i've seen not all autoxs are the same...there are some with long straights where more powerful heavier cars actually have an advantage and there are the tight twist tracks where the lighter more nimble car will have an advantage...but as mike said the driver is the biggest factor in all forms of racing

But I agree get a cheapo 4th or 5th GEN Civic or 1986-1991 CRX and you'd be having fun in no time without any mods. You can even use your current ride which is of course the cheapest since you don't have to buy a car
